Nehar Shalom CSA with Allandale Farm

For the past 8 years, members and friends of Nehar Shalom have participated in Allandale Farm’s Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program.  Beginning approximately the first week in June and running through the Fall, CSA share holders receive a box of vegetables every week; either a full share (1 bushel) or a half-share (1/2 bushel) of fresh produce from Allandale Farm, Boston’s last working farm.  Prepaying for your share before the season starts provides the farmer with start-up money for the planting season and a guaranteed market for his produce.  Shares for 10 weeks of fresh-cut flowers are also available. If you are away for a week and unable to use your vegetables, they will be donated to the non-profit Lovin Spoonfuls (see CSA agreement).

Shares are picked up each week at the farm between 12 and 6:30 p.m. One person picks up the shares for our group each week and drops them off on the back porch of Nehar Shalom.  Using Google groups, we create a sign-up sheet and communication mechanism so that group members only have to pick up boxes at the farm 3-4 times a season (depending on group size).  The pickup day for this year will be Thursday.

To register for the 2016 CSA season, click here and print out the forms and mail or drop off along with your check.  If you wish to participate in the Nehar Shalom group pickup, you must choose the Thursday pick up date and write Nehar Shalom group on your registration form.  Please also email Mieke (communications@neharshalom.org) with the name(s) and email of everyone in your group, and the type and size of your share(s).  Members are encouraged to use the Google group that will be set up to share recipes and discuss the produce of the week as well as for communicating with others in case there is a change in the pick up schedule. This has become a delicious summer tradition that we hope you will try!
